Short answer

Start with the trip, not the postcard

Choose the Mexican Caribbean for a large resort-and-flight system, the Oaxaca or Guerrero coast for Pacific town life, or Baja California Sur for desert-and-sea travel. Weather, marine conditions and holiday pricing remain local.

Use winter as a starting question, not a national forecast

Select the region and the activity before comparing winter rooms. A city-and-culture stay, Caribbean resort and Pacific surf holiday need different daily plans, including a fallback when weather changes. Confirm the particular operator's calendar and current local guidance for your dates. Holiday room rates, availability and transport cannot be inferred from a normal-week example. Compare the total stay including transfers, meals and cancellation conditions, rather than choosing on a sunshine photograph or assuming every Mexican coast offers the same winter experience.

Decision rules

Use these to break a tie

  1. Christmas and New Year are separate pricing periods.
  2. Winter does not mean identical weather nationwide.
  3. Book the base before the resort.

Before you book

Three checks

  • Check official weather and marine advisories.
  • Confirm cancellation terms for weather-dependent activities.
  • Verify holiday transport and restaurant openings.

Useful questions

What travellers usually need to know

Which coast is warmest?

Conditions vary by destination and date; use current local forecasts rather than a national assumption.

When should I book?

Peak holiday weeks reward earlier booking, but only after the exact base and cancellation terms are clear.

Useful official planning links

Check your dates and journeys with official destination and operator resources. These comparisons are editorial guidance, not hotel inspections, live availability or a safety guarantee.

  • Visit Mexico: official destinations

Use the official destination directory to compare regions. Final neighbourhood choice, local transport and current conditions still need a date-specific check.
